Il film italiano è uno dei 15 selezionati che potrebbe conquistare una candidatura agli Academy Awards. La cinquina finale sarà annunciata il 23 gennaio
L’Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ha svelato le shortlist con i finalisti per gli Oscar 2024 che si contenderanno un posto nelle dieci categorie designate: documentari e lungometraggi internazionali, cortometraggio documentario, trucco e acconciatura, colonna sonora originale, canzone originale, cortometraggio animato, cortometraggio live-action, effetti sonori e visivi.

Ebbene, “Io Capitano”di Matteo Garrone è entrato nella short list dei 15 film selezionati. Un passo importante verso una possibile candidatura agli Oscar. Il periodo per le nomination agli Oscar durerà dall’11 al 16 gennaio 2024, mentre il 23 gennaio, verranno annunciate le cinque pellicole che avranno l’opportunità di competere per la prestigiosa statuetta. Le votazioni degli Oscar si svolgono tra il 22 e il 27 febbraio.
La 96 esima edizione degli Oscar si terrà il 10 marzo 2024, e si svolgerà presso il Dolby Theatre nel centro commerciale Ovation Hollywood (ex Hollywood & Highland) di Los Angeles. La cerimonia verrà trasmessa in tutto il mondo (negli USA dal canale televisivo ABC).
Il Sottosegretario alla Cultura, Lucia Borgonzoni, ha commentato: “È la notizia che stavamo aspettando. Congratulazioni a Matteo Garrone. Traguardo sempre più vicino. Con ‘Io Capitano’ l’Italia punta all’Oscar.” Paolo Del Brocco, amministratore delegato di Rai Cinema, che ha coprodotto il film, ha elogiato il successo del film in una competizione di altissimo livello.
